Oh Howe I loved Elvis!

 

I was 10 years old when I first saw Elvis in a Hollywood movie!  He was 19 years old. My best friend, Dorothy, and I were at the neighborhood movie theater seeing our weekly Saturday matinee!  

                  

Saturday I had the lovely opportunity of seeing Baz Luhrmann’s production of ELVIS in another         neighborhood movie theater, another Saturday matinee, with my best friend, Grover.     

WOW!  The actor, Austin Butler, had an incredible challenge and gave an incredible performance!  Luhrmann's  attention to detail is incredible. Covering 30+ years of an award-winning, record-breaking, talented performer is an enormous enterprise!  Just covering the music alone is something.  Covering all of that emotion, the innocence, the  growing pains, the love,  the tragic fraud perpetrated and contributing to Elvis' suffering... What an amazing achievement!!

If you think you knew Elvis, you will be surprised at what you learn from seeing this movie.  I never understood what contributed to his early death.  People gave the short answer.  Drugs.  Shaking their heads in judgment.  

I cried.  And once again I fell in love with Elvis.
